12TH ANNUAL DULLES AIRPORT 5K / 10K ON THE RUNWAY
The 12th Annual Dulles Airport 5k / 10k on the Runway will take place on Saturday , September 28 , 2024 , with the starting line at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum ’ s Steven F . Udvar- Hazy Center , located at 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway in Chantilly . Don ’ t miss your opportunity to take the flattest , fastest course in the area on an actual runway at Dulles ! Get a unique look at the airport grounds , run past planes and go along the actual landing strip on this certified looped course .
Registration is open to the first 2,500 runners . Top runners will receive a certificate from United Airlines for a round-trip ticket anywhere that United flies in the continental United States , Alaska , the Caribbean , Canada , Mexico and Central America , plus a weekend overnight stay for two at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott . Proceeds support the Committee for Dulles Community Outreach Scholarship Program , Special Olympics Virginia and the Washington Airports Task Force .
Because this event will take place on the runway , only registered runners ( with / without strollers ) will be allowed through the final checkpoint to get onto the course . Spectators will be allowed to cheer their favorite runners along the finish line .
The 2024 Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull is set for Saturday , September 14 , 2024 . The 32nd Annual Plane Pull takes place from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM , with food , games , exhibitions and live music . The annual event raises money for Special Olympics Virginia and the inspiring athletes who compete . It ’ s human versus machine and a whole lot more .
Over the last 32 years , the event has grown to a day of competition , food and games , with approximately 15,000 people attending each year . Since its inception , over $ 6M has been raised for Special Olympics Virginia to help athletes with intellectual disabilities in Virginia , and 100 % of the proceeds go to support Special Olympics Virginia ’ s over 23,000 athletes in the Commonwealth .
Teams of 25 attempt to pull an 82-ton FedEx Airbus A320 or United Boeing 757 airplane 12 feet in record time . Teams who sign up agree to raise at least $ 2,500 , and awards are handed out for the fastest pull , heaviest and lightest team , most money raised , most enthusiastic , and more .
So much to do and see .
While this event revolves around airplanes ( pulling airplanes , watching airplanes take off and land and climbing inside display aircraft ), it also includes a car show , an air show , food trucks , fire truck and Mobile Lounge rides , a kid ’ s truck pull powered by 123Junk , a kid ’ s activities area and community and airport exhibitors .
