Through an ongoing effort to expand its offerings which was initiated in 2018 , the development will take place over the span of seven years . The transformation is made possible through the support of Congress , as well as the utilization of $ 250M in donated funds . Yet , its growth will not be limited to just the physical changes of the museum ’ s spatial parameters . With the honorary vision and striking agenda to broaden its material further , the museum will also include 1,400 new objects within its collection and on display . Further , it will continue to utilize creative and dynamic techniques to provide visitors with visual , tactile , and auditory experiences . A large part of its progression was captured in 2022 as the museum unveiled eight new galleries within its west wing . In this wave of expansion , visitors gained access to exhibits such as America by Air , Destination Moon , One World Connected , and more .
