At least that’s how it is in our nation’s capital, as the banks of the Potomac River unfurl their lush greenery and the crowds come to play at free festivals, splash along the water, cheer on baseball and music stars, and celebrate the Fourth of July in grand old flag style. Helping to light the candles of the nation’s birthday cake is award winning actor Gary Sinise, who shares his energetic efforts to support and entertain the servicemen and -women of the United States military, including co-hosting live the 30th Annual National Memorial Day Concert at the Capitol with friend and fellow award winning actor, Joe Mantegna. Summer 2019 also brings #FlyWashington to yet more of the charming, historic, and vibrant communities surrounding D.C. The journey starts in Rockville, Maryland, home to an exceptionally varied dining scene, sophisticated cultural calendar, buzzing nightlife, and a wealth of shopping. Further on up the road, we land in Point of Rocks to explore the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park before turning south to the antiques and vintage mecca of Lucketts, Virginia, and Purcellville to taste local whisky, gin, brandy, and wine. Those with a serious travel bug need only flip a few more pages to discover more national and international destinations within easy, direct flights from Dulles International and Reagan National airports, from Seattle to Detroit to Minneapolis to Portland (Maine, that is), and across the pond to Barcelona, Brussels, and Cairo.
