MORE CHERRY BLOSSOMS TO ENJOY AT DULLES

BY ROB YINGLING
A signature attraction of the Washington , D . C ., area has expanded its presence at Dulles , thanks to a generous donation .
Representatives of the Airports Authority accepted 20 cherry trees on November 1 , 2023 , from the National Cherry Blossom Festival and its longtime sponsor , All Nippon Airways ( ANA ). The famous flowering trees were planted lining the west side of a service road between Signature Flight Support and an employee parking lot near the main terminal . The trees are over four years old and expected to bloom during this year ’ s National Cherry Blossom Festival . ANA has served Dulles with flights to Tokyo since 1986 .

Vice President for Diversity , Inclusion , and Social Impact Tanisha Lewis expressed the Airports Authority ’ s gratitude for the donation . She thanked the Dulles team for finding a prominent location within view of the iconic Dulles terminal . An executive from ANA and the festival ’ s president jointly presented a plaque to Airport Manager Richard Golinowski , which is on display to mark the occasion . The plaque reads , “ These cherry trees are planted in honor of the friendship between the United States and Japan .”
Another plaque from a previous donation of cherry trees at Reagan National can be seen along the sidewalk near Terminal 1 . Over the years , this program has planted about 150 cherry trees across the Washington metropolitan area .
