Poem 417

by Laurie Hesed

Everything has been said.

The details of his life,

the loss of the personalities

that got in his way,

his ex baby mama buying

the guns for him.

(How can an assault rifle

ever be justified?

She now faces charges

and up to ten years in jail.)

The theological dilemma

for those of us who believe

that killing is always wrong.

The fact that Kansas doesn't require

a permit to purchase,

the registration of a firearm,

the licensing of the owner,

or a permit to carry.

Open or concealed doesn't matter to us.

It's all good.

We are re-enacting the Wild West here.

Now don't you feel safer just knowing

how free you are?
