Roses on Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day takes place on the 14th of February. Actually, it is an American holiday that has also become a tradition in Germany.
On that day, men give their women roses to show how much they mean to each other. It is the day of love in our country and couples spend a nice romantic evening together, like going out for dinner.
At Easter it is customary to put out a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The branches in the Easter bouquet stand for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On Maundy Thursday, shortly before Easter, the branches are cut, decorated with colourful eggs and ribbons, and are placed in a vase. This bouquet will then sprout leaves in a vase until Easter Sunday.
In ancient Rome, agricultural work and taking care of agricultural and horticultural plants were considered as the most noble and appropriate fields of human activity. The function of plants, in particular ornamental plants in the development of tradition and culture and the spiritual and material accomplishment of humanity is enormous.
For many years plants have been considered to have a significant symbolical meaning.

Flowers at weddings
The bride has a bridal bouquet. It is a tradition that the bride throws it backwards over her head to the unmarried women. The one who catches it, is the next to marry. It is also a tradition that the bridal car is decorated with a wreath of flowers.
Most used are arrangements with colourful roses. Often the groom also has a small rose on his jacket. At many weddings there are flower children who show the bride and groom the way outside after the wedding or the bride the way to the altar with rose petals.

In the mistletoe tradition you kiss your loved one under the mistletoe. According to this tradition, this love will then last forever and ever and be very happy.
Of course, we have a Christmas tree in Germany. The green branches are considered a sign of life. The decorated Christmas tree is placed indoors or outdoors at Christmas time. Traditional locations are churches, public places and at home. Fairy lights, candles, Christmas tree balls, tinsel, angels, or other figures are usually used as tree decorations.
