Product and Material Storage
In order to easily and visually communicate to employees where to find what
they need, as well as where resources should be placed or re-placed, many
facilities utilize floor marking in product and material storage areas. These
can be temporary or holding areas for products in various stages of production, or long-term storage areas for finished product or raw materials.
Considered a key component of the 5S process in Lean manufacturing, this
application of floor marking yields gains in efficiency and safety by reducing
worker confusion.

Equipment and Tools
Placing outlines around equipment and tools is another common application of floor marking and is necessary for your 5S implementation.
An example of this would be placing white tape around the base of portable
tools or machinery to indicate its proper location. This eliminates employee
time wasted in searching for needed resources. Safety is also enhanced as
an outline of machinery will indicate the reach of its components and safe
operational space requirements
