Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang and Jean Renoir arrived from
Europe. In the mid-1940s Film making became a wide
spread activity and about 400 films were made in a year and
were seen by audience of about 90 million Americans a week.
The use of sound in movies became popular in
the late 1920s after the release of the movie “The
Jazz Singer” which was a talkie. Warner Bros. were
established by that time and they produced this
talkie. In 1929 first Academy Awards were announced
with the award for the best picture in the year 1927
going to “Wings”.
American dialogue movies took over slapstick comedies
and American gangster films like The Public enemies by
Wellman became famous. It was also during this period
when Walt Disney released their first full length animation
feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
