A must watch for the De-Niro fanbase with the ‘Russian Roulette’ being the iconic scene from the movie. The RUSSIAN ROULETTE Scene THE ENEMY BELOW - 1957 A war movie list without ones involving submarine warfare is not fair to history. This movie is about the absolutely engrossing submarine warfare between an American escort and a German boat. With curt dialogues and professional performances, the movie gives us an actual feel of the situation out there. Through the course of the movie, the opponent captains garner each other’s respect and that is brought to the fore in the epitome of respectful closing sequences. The visual effects have been critically acclaimed and is surely a commendable effort. 300 - 2006 The only movie in my list from the ancient times. Based on the Persian wars, this movie was an adaptation of a comic series and to give the same feel, chroma technique has been used and the visuals are consistently impressive. The physically strong set of soldiers is an envious watch and gives you a powerful action packed performance throughout. The phalanx formation sequences give the action lovers a true feast and an insight into the deeps of ancient warfare. And in my opinion, ‘This alone is Sparta’ and enough and not so worthy spoofs and sequels have followed. FLICK 2018 PAGE 54
