Adapted Screenplays that
were better than the books
Here’s my list of 5 adapted screenplays which were better than the books
from which they were based on.
1. The Big Short
Based on - ‘The Big Short’(2010), by
Michael Lewis
Accolades - Winner, Academy Award for
the Best Adapted Screenplay, 2016.
Michael Lewis is an author that Production
Houses and Directors alike love to adapt.
We have seen his success with films like
Moneyball(2011) and The Blind Side(2008),
for which Sandra Bullock won her first Oscar.
The selling point of Lewis’s books has been
one simple fact: the reader can understand
him. He takes complex, industry specific
jargon and explains it to the masses in
layman’s terms. This is what makes The Big
Short an enjoyable film. Adam Mckay, the
director, has brought the true essence of the book on screen. With hilarious
fourth wall breaks and appreciable cameos by the likes of Margot Robbie,
Selena Gomez and other renowned personalities explaining the financial
instruments using everyday metaphors, the director also manages to
engage the users with conflicts in the personal lives of the protagonists and
how it influences their respective careers.
