Sam Quinones, author of‘ Dreamland’, which was named one of the best books of 2015 by the Wall Street Journal and Slate. com. Quinones will discuess the origins of opioids, the use of these pain killers as recreational drugs and how they connect with the explosion in heroin use.

Ivana Grahovac will speak on recovery support and addiction disorders from her own personal experience in long-term recovery from substance abuse.

Sarah Spurlock will speak about House Bill 333, which limits issuance of a prescription for a Schedule II controlled substance for treatment of acute pain to a three day supply.

Renee Shaw, Justin Allen and Laura Krueger, KET producers who cover the public health crisis surrounding prescription painkillers and heroin in Kentucky and the nation, will share their insights. Session will also include a panel discussion with experts in the field.
That weekend, GLMS and its KMA Delegation will submit more than a dozen resolutions for the KMA House of Delegates to consider as policy. We need all available GLMS delegates to come out to the Annual Meeting and vote on these issues.

JOIN THE RAMBLE 5K
Join local physicians and the Louisville Bar Association for the 8 th annual Ramble 5K fun run / fitness walk on Saturday, August 26, from 9 a. m. to noon. Late registration begins at 8 a. m.
Held at Beckley Creek Park at 1421 Beckley Creek Pkwy in Louisville. Tickets are $ 35 per person if purchased before Wednesday, August 16, and $ 40 after. There are discounts
for groups of four or larger, as well as students. Children 12 and under run for free. Food and refreshments will be available, as well as family activities and a best dressed super hero contest.
The Ramble 5K has been a huge success in past years, raising money for Doctors and Lawyers for Kids, a medical-legal partnership designed to address legal needs that affect the health and welfare of children in poverty.
