Speaking to the Board, Judd said, “Like usual, our audit went pretty smooth. We get information requested in a timely manner, and it’s easy to work with folks here at the Society.” Results of the audit were approved by the Board. The Board approved formalizing a relationship between GLMS and Surgery on Sunday Louisville including services such as credentialing, communications and meeting space provided by GLMS. “My board is very excited to formally partner with GLMS. Free outpatient surgery for the uninsured and underinsured was a definite need in our community,” said Erica Sutton, MD, Executive Director of Surgery on Sunday Louisville. GLMS Board Chair Bruce Scott, MD, agreed, “This is right down the mainstream of our mission to promote the science and profession of medicine. Congratulations to you, Erica, and your team. You’ve done some great work.” The Board approved supporting a policy statement from the GLMS Environmental Medicine Committee recommending the local smoking ordinance include hookah bars. Sarah Moyer, MD, of the Department of Public Health and Wellness, thanked the Board saying the policy statement would be a great help. The GLMS Physician Wellness Program committee met with psychologists for contract discussions. GLMS President Robert Couch, MD, MBA, announced the team is planning for a February 1 start date. Look for more information about the program coming soon. Dr. Scott encouraged board members to extend invitations for Advocacy Day in Frankfort on February 10. “We want to get a critical mass of people there in Frankfort and that includes students and residents,” said Dr. Scott. [email protected] for more information yy On January 12 The Louisville Bar Association will train a group of physician residents on the basics of advocacy and lobbying, with GLMS partnering for communications and coverage. “I think education is a big thing we’re missing. I didn’t know what to do when I started, and so I think these type of activities are vital,” said GLMS Treasurer Frank Burns, MD. The Bar Association will provide a lunch speaker and the session will be captured on video for future education purposes. yy (Pictured above) GLMS Foundation President K. Thomas Reichard, MD, presented University of Louisville Medical School Dean Toni Ganzel, MD, with a check for $28,000 for six scholarships from the GLMS Foundation 2015 Golf Outing. This includes the Lelan K. Woodmansee Medical Scholarship and a $3,000 from the GLMS Alliance. Physicians, mark your calendars.
