The board approved a pledge of $5,000 per
year for five years towards The Healing Place,
Louisville’s leading addiction program, for a
total of $25,000. Chair Jay Davidson spoke
to the board, noting the facility has a 75 percent success rate. Davidson said the return
on investment for a donation was tenfold
when compared to the community costs of
arresting, detaining, booking and punishing
each addict, and this is all without mentioning
the human cost.
Neal Richmond, MD, director of Louisville
Metro EMS, gave board members an update
on emergency services in Louisville. Louisville
hospital and ambulance staff are being much
more cautious regarding potential Ebola contact. EMS workers have been trained to pick
out flu like symptoms and are required to
ask a patient’s travel history. Dr. Richmond
also said steps were being taken to better
utilize alternate transportation to health care
facilities besides ambulances. He explained
many people who use ambulances don’t

need them and if other transportation can
be found, ambulances can be freed up for
more essential uses.

Candidate Forums hosted by GLMS for Rep.
John Yarmuth and his challenger, Michael
Macfarlane, MD. “This is another example
of us getting more involved with policy and
advocacy,” said Dr. Scott. “I think it was a
positive move.
