SUSTAINABILITY IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
Southeast Asian countries are receiving substantial financial support from the governments to gradually shift to cleaner transport and mobility. However similar some of these policies might be, they also differ depending on each country’ s timeline and goals.
Due to the implementation of these policies, Thailand and Vietnam are currently leading the charge in EV production in the region. Malaysia and Indonesia, on the other hand, are focusing efforts on keeping up with the manufacturing race. Lastly, Singapore’ s policies focus on the buyers, which also proved to be effective as BYD has become the country’ s top-selling car brand.
While some of these policies are still new, its greater impact on their respective countries remains to be seen. The region’ s ultimate goal towards clean and green energy is a long road ahead, requiring commitment, attention, and dedication from both private and public sectors.
