Day 1: Big Ideas and Real Inspiration
The AfMA Fleet Summit kicked off with a warm welcome from President Lee Sauerwald and lively MC Lisa Panarello. Keynote speaker Gerrard Gosens OAM wowed the crowd with his story of resilience and teamwork. AfMA’ s 30th birthday was marked by Executive Director Mace Hartley, who looked back at how far the organisation has come. Tech took the spotlight as Geotab’ s Mike Branch showed how AI is helping fleets stay safer and smarter. Other sessions covered data, EVs, safety, and managing vehicle information.
Dr. Steve Nuttall encouraged fleet managers to lead, not just manage costs. Brian Fielkow shared real safety tips, while Katharine Kemp spoke about protecting data in modern vehicles. EV experts Kristian Handberg and Stefan Holzschuh explained how to build better charging systems.
The Women in Fleet panel, with Christine Humphreys and Sam Street, sparked chats about supporting women in the industry. A live risk roleplay gave the audience a chance to problem-solve together, and the Ride & Drive let everyone test the latest electric cars in action.
