Since most dealerships prioritise retail, fleet managers often need to advocate for their department’ s importance. Isabella believes that education and communication are key.
Retail sales can fluctuate, but fleet offers stability. She notes that if you don’ t communicate with the sales managers and the rest of the team, they won’ t understand the value of fleet. It’ s all about keeping those lines of communication open.
By demonstrating fleet’ s long-term benefits— such as repeat business and bulk orders— she helps dealership staff see its strategic value beyond immediate profits.
Building Strong Client Relationships
At its core, fleet sales are about trust. Isabella’ s approach is simple but effective: be yourself and be honest.
“ Don’ t add fluff, don’ t overcomplicate things. Just tell clients how it is,” she advises.“ Ask questions, show genuine interest in them and their fleet challenges, and make them feel valued. If there’ s a problem, go the extra mile to fix it.”
According to her, going beyond the transactional aspect of sales builds loyalty and ensures clients return to the dealership for future purchases.
A Long-Term Career in Dealerships
While the automotive industry is ever-changing, Isabella sees herself staying in dealership life for the foreseeable future. Having worked in fleet management, FMOs, and the rental industry, she always finds herself drawn back to dealerships.
“ There’ s a real family feel in this industry,” she says.“ It’ s a smaller network, and you build strong connections. Right now, I’ m really happy here.”
Advice for Women Entering the Industry
For women considering a career in automotive sales or fleet management, Isabella’ s advice is to go for it with confidence.
“ Gone are the days where this industry was just for men,” she says.“ Things are changing, and women are not only welcome but needed. We bring a different perspective and unique skills to sales.”
She’ s observed that female sales professionals can often take a more consultative approach— listening to customers’ needs and building trust, which can be incredibly effective.
“ In brands like Isuzu UTE, some male customers still expect to deal with men,” she admits.“ But if you provide great service, that expectation disappears. We just need to continue proving ourselves.”
