Experience with AfMA ’ s Industry Development Program
Zoe had the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Australasian Fleet Leadership and Education Summit , where she joined AfMA ’ s Industry Development Program ( IDP ). This program supports the development of future fleet professionals by offering members who attend the annual Fleet Leadership Summit the opportunity to secure free tickets for eligible Fleet Support Staff .
This opportunity opened her eyes to the day-today realities of fleet management and helped her understand how to make the processes more efficient . “ The main thing that stood out was just how many opportunities there are within the industry ,” Zoe explained .
“ And it was particularly interesting to listen to what a future fleet could look like in terms of electric and hydrogen vehicles . But it also highlighted the impacts and limitations there would be on businesses because not everybody is set up to have electric vehicles …”
It showed that it wasn ’ t just a case of changing your fleet over to a futuristic type of vehicle , it highlighted that you had to have all the infrastructure available … So it was also just getting you to think about the feasibility ,” she added .
“ For me , as well , one of the main things that that were highlighted was what a lot of the Councils are doing , the initiatives that are happening around the country . It was really interesting because when you ’ re sort of in your own fleet , doing your administration , you don ’ t really look at the bigger picture . It just made you think wow , there ’ s a lot more that goes into this in the background .”
More Women in the Fleet Industry
The fleet industry has often been seen as being mostly dominated by men , but that ’ s starting to change . “ Some of the people that have undertaken courses and AfMA programs , a lot were women ,” Zoe said .
“ I could already see just sitting there not having much knowledge of the industry that that is changing . I would say that women definitely have a place in fleet .”
