MICROCHIP CERTIFIED
SMART BELTS
HYDROGEN REVOLUTION
Microchip Technology has been certified in the ISO / SAE 21434 road vehicle cybersecurity engineering standard by UL Solutions . This certification confirms that Microchip complies with the standard , which sets rules for managing cybersecurity risks in the entire lifespan of automotive products .
As cars increasingly depend on wireless and in-vehicle network connections , following these standards is crucial . The ISO / SAE 21434 standard , developed by ISO and SAE International , outlines 45 security categories for designing electronic systems in vehicles . Microchip ’ s certification ensures the implementation of a corporate cybersecurity management system , emphasising cybersecurity across the organisation .
Matthias Kaestner , Microchip ’ s corporate vice president for automotive business , highlights the company ’ s commitment to high standards in automotive cybersecurity .
ZF Passive Safety Systems has introduced an advanced seat belt system featuring the Multi-Stage Load Limiter ( MSLL ), aiming to enhance safety outcomes in accidents .
This technology allows tailored adjustment of belt force limitation based on the size and weight of vehicle occupants . The MSLL enables car manufacturers to meet the evolving standards of the NCAP Roadmap 2030 , offering individualised protection and reducing accident consequences . The system stands out for its adaptability and interaction with other safety systems , transforming the seat belt into an intelligent , controllable safety device .
ZF ’ s innovation responds to increasing expectations from customers and NCAP criteria , offering better adaptivity and reducing accident impacts . The MSLL ’ s multi-stage design provides flexibility in restraining forces throughout a crash , catering to individuals of varying stature and optimising safety .
Future developments may involve sensory interior monitoring for personalised belt forces based on occupants ’ characteristics and collision severity , contributing to enhanced protection for diverse demographics in different accident scenarios .
Daimler Truck and Linde Engineering introduce sLH2 , a new liquid hydrogen refueling technology for heavy-duty trucks . This innovative system offers safe , fast , and simple refueling , taking only 10 to 15 minutes for a 40-ton truck , providing a range of over 1,000 kilometers .
Compared to gaseous hydrogen , sLH2 increases storage density , range , and energy efficiency while lowering costs . The technology reduces required investment for refueling stations by two to three times , with operational costs five to six times lower .
The sLH2 pump simplifies the process , increasing efficiency and decreasing complexity . Daimler Truck and Linde Engineering aim to establish sLH2 as a global industry standard , offering transparency and open access to the technology .
Initial customer trials with Mercedes- Benz GenH2 Trucks are set to begin in mid-2024 , showcasing CO2-free longdistance transport .
