HYDRO MILESTONE
NEW-AGE GEL
CIRCULAR CARBON
Latest range test of Tevva ’ s dualenergy prototype truck has seen an exciting milestone . Engineers drove their 7.5t hydrogen-electric vehicle from Tevva ’ s London HQ to the Scottish border at Berwickon-Tweed – England ’ s most northernmost town . This has resulted in a driving range of an accumulated 1000 kilometers ( km ).
The most impressive feat of the hydrogen — electric truck was the return journey where it was able to travel about 560 km in a single charge . This was made possible by the truck ’ s hydrogen fuel cell which tops up the range-extended ( Rex ) vehicle ’ s lithium battery when needed .
Lead Engineer , Tevva Rex , Charlie Cordell said : “ It was an amazing trip and we were so pleased the truck covered so many miles on the return leg , without the need to stop for a charge .
“ The trip was a terrific demonstration of the range you can achieve in a truck that uses a blended system of electric and hydrogen . The freezing conditions were extremely challenging , but helpful too , in allowing us to gather important data about vehicle performance , meaning we could make tweaks here and there and tailor its development .”
The Parker Hannifin Corporation has announced its new THERM-A-GAP™ GEL 20 , a one-component thermal interface material with 2.4 W / m-K thermal conductivity ideal for automotive industry applications .
The material can be used for various applications including electronic control units ( ECUs ); converters , inverters and on-board chargers ; control modules for advanced driver assistance systems ( ADAS ); and vehicle infotainment .
The THERM-A-GAP™ GEL 20 needs only low compressive force to deform under assembly pressure . It also features low oil bleeding , minimising the generation of greasy substances on the surface of the heat sink or substrate during use . Furthermore , it also resists movement under vibration and offers superior tackiness , both of which are important benefits for automotive applications .
German engineering and digital mobility company FEV Group ( Forschungsgesellschaft für Energietechnik und Verbrennungsmotoren ) has recently announced the “ Demonstrating a Circular Carbon Economy in Transport Along the Value Chain ” ( DeCarTrans ). This is a joint research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport ( BMDV ) as part of the “ Development of Renewable Fuels ” funding initiative ( funding code 16RK14004D ).
DeCarTrans will investigate the production of synthetic gasoline on an industrial scale of up to 380,000 litres total production volume . It aims to improve process efficiency ( e . g ., through heat re-integration ) and to increase product quality to minimize the emission of pollutants during combustion . In addition , the consortium is evaluating sales and market launch .
A total of eight companies from the mineral oil industry , the process engineering industry , and research and development have joined forces in the DeCarTrans consortium .
