Bp has signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) with the Government of Egypt to explore the potential for establishing a new green hydrogen production facility in the country .
The MoU was signed by bp , Egypt ’ s New and Renewable Energy Authority ( NREA ), the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company ( EETC ), the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone ( SCZONE ) and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt for Investment and Development ( TSFE ).
“ Bp is proud of our long history in Egypt and significant role in the country ’ s energy industry . Egypt has worldclass renewable energy resources , and we look forward to working with the Government to explore how we can support its ambitious low carbon strategy ,” said Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath , Bp ’ s Executive Vice President of Gas and Low Carbon Energy .
MAHLE has recently announced that it has successfully connected the group ’ s most powerful photovoltaic system with a 2,200-kilowatt peak ( kWp ), to the grid at its s plant in Montblanc , Spain .
“ We planned and built the photovoltaic system in about a year . With it , we can cover about ten percent of our annual power needs and significantly reduce our CO2 emissions ,” says Roger Gombau , plant manager at MAHLE Montblanc .
The 10,000 m2 enclosure with an annual output of around 3,000 megawatt hours ( MWh ) reduces around 700 metric tons of CO2 per year . This marks the fifth solar plant within the MAHLE Group that produces green energy .
The company has reportedly reached its next milestone in its CO2 reduction plan and is becoming more and more independent from fossil fuels and fluctuating prices in the energy market . The company plans to achieve carbonneutral production at all its plants by 2040 .
Dutch high-tech company , Lightyear , has started production of the world ’ s first solar-electric car Lightyear 0 , at Valmet Automotive ’ s facility in Finland .
“ We have hit many milestones in recent years , from major funding achievements to great partnerships . However , today is the most significant , and probably the most challenging , milestone we have reached so far ”, says Lex Hoefsloot , CEO and Co- Founder of Lightyear .
“ Starting production of Lightyear 0 , the first solar car , brings us a big step closer to our mission of clean mobility for everyone , everywhere . We may be the first to achieve this , but I certainly hope we aren ’ t the last .”
Lightyear 0 is the company ’ s first step in its attempt to transform the mobility sector : by creating an efficient vehicle with a smaller battery capacity ( 60kWh ).
