BRAKING INNOVATIONS FOR FLEETS

WORDS BY PEDDERS

Pedders Suspension & Brakes is constantly expanding its range of safety-focused fleet solutions , and this month the Australian family-owned undercar brand has released two new innovative braking products aimed at fleet markets .

The first addition is the new Pedders Electric Secondary Park Brake ( ESPB ) to suit the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series – an extremely popular fleet vehicle particularly in the mining and construction sectors . The Pedders Electric Secondary Park Brake product brings modern park brake technology to the LandCruiser and incorporates an electric park brake ( EPB ) caliper into the vehicle ’ s existing braking system .
The ESPB works in conjunction with the OEM manual park brake as a back-up safety feature that ensures appropriate clamping pressure is always applied to the park brake , reducing the risk of vehicle roll away . Engineer testing of this product on a LandCruiser 79 Series loaded to 4200kg , showed the standard manual park brake could not hold the vehicle when stopped on a 30 % incline . Once the Pedders ESPB was applied , the vehicle was brought safely to a halt .
The ESPB also features an auto engagement safety feature that automatically activates the Electric Secondary Park Brake when the ignition is cycled to off which avoids the risk of a driver forgetting to apply the park brake . This product features an intuitive dashboardmounted activation switch and simple installation which incorporates use of the factory park brake dashboard light .
Vehicle roll aways are a serious WHS issue which Pedders aims to mitigate with this new product which is now available Australia-wide .
