Lower operating costs
Thanks to the cheaper running costs of EVs , our business is economically better off . While there are upfront costs that come from leasing EVs and installing the charging infrastructure , the question becomes not ‘ What will it cost if we do ?’, but ‘ What will it cost if we don ’ t ?’.
Any of the initial upfront investment in charging infrastructure was quickly counteracted by the benefits of smart charging and the simple fact that EV charging is significantly cheaper than powering our fleet through petrol . While the average Australian vehicle costs around $ 0.14 / km on petrol , we have seen this cost reduced to approximately $ 0.035 / km within our electric fleet .
We ’ ve also been able to get real life data of operating EVs which has helped inform our future requirements and will help us achieve our goal of transitioning all Kingspan vehicles to EVs by 2025 .
We ’ re on a roll
Getting through the initial hurdle was the hardest part . With anything new comes hesitation , but since introducing one EV into our fleet capabilities , we ’ ve been on a roll .
