Fleet Managers seek Data Aggregation solutions

WORDS BY PAUL OLIVER

With Fleet Managers turning to multiple

vendor solutions , data aggregation has taken on a new importance in developing effective insights into the fleet .
For many fleet managers , the supply of raw data in recent years has increased exponentially , with fuel providers , FMOs , telematics systems , accident managers and insurance companies all contributing .
Add to this the new trends for fleet to take responsibility for mobility options – ride-share , car share and even public transport – and you could find yourself with a dozen or more sources of data .
Actionable Insights is the Key
Sarah Hanrahan , Canberra based Connector Partner , says that aggregating data into a single , manageable format is necessary for the data to be useful . “ We get so many sources of data and even where it ’ s the same supplier , the format may be different . For example , an FMO may send invoices for different services they provide in varying formats .”
She says that she often sees clients trying to wrangle the data into a useable format with spreadsheets or an access database . “ It ’ s really quite a poor approach . Data aggregation software is really quite inexpensive these days and if you measure an employee ’ s time against the cost of the software , it often pays for itself in the first month .”
It is vital for fleet managers and business leaders to have a holistic view of the fleet operations , including Total Cost of Ownership ( TCO ), to enable well informed decision making and execution of optimal strategies .
