QUEENSLAND Brisbane based Tritium is having some great success selling their chargers internationally with the latest batch going all the way to America. The City of Pasadena, California has installed 20 Tritium RT50/50kW DC Fast Chargers. The addition of these 20 fast chargers adds to the existing 24 Tesla Superchargers, making it one of the largest public charging locations in the US. The design of the Tritium RT50/50kW fastchargers installed at the Marengo location fits into compact spaces and existing structures typical of Level 2 A.C. chargers. They operate over a wide range of environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and corrosive conditions. The chargers have a wide operating temperature range of -31 to +122 degrees Fahrenheit and offer ingress protection of IP65, NEMA 3R. EV owners can get up to 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes with the Tritium 50kW charger. NEW SOUTH WALES New data by Transport for NSW shows that speed-related fatalities and drink-driving arrests are rising during the COVID-19 pandemic. The executive director of the Centre for Road Safety, Bernard Carlon, said there had been a “worrying increase in the percentage of fatalities where speeding had been a contributing factor” in March and April. Compared to January and February when speeding was a factor in 30 per cent of road deaths, this percentage rose to 72 per cent in March and 54 per cent in April, he said. Drinkdriving also rose in the first few months along with a spike in pedestrian deaths. About two thirds of the 35 speed-related fatalities occurred on country roads. With less traffic, deaths on NSW roads fell from 155 this time last year to 126, a 19 per cent drop. This figure includes 77 deaths on country roads. WESTERN AUSTRALIA The state’s principal water supplier Water Corporation has introduced two full-electric vehicles (EVs), the first of a wider commitment to further reducing carbon emissions and minimising its environmental footprint. The move comes as the organisation aims to achieve its target of becoming a zero net greenhouse gas emission utility by 2050. Water Corporation currently has 102 passenger vehicles in its metropolitan fleet, including 30 hybrid EVs. Over the next five years, the Corporation will transition up to 40 percent of its metropolitan fleet to EV as existing vehicles in the fleet are renewed. Two Hyundai Konas are now available to Water Corporation employees for daily tasks in the metropolitan area. These EVs are fully powered by an on-board battery and have the capacity to travel 449km on a single charge. 30 ISSUE 23 2020 / WWW.AFMA.ORG.AU
