FIVE March/April. 2013 | Page 27

FIVE: First off, for everyone in the area who is unfamiliar with you, who are you, what do you do, how old are you and where are you from?
Kid Kodak: I am known here as Kid Kodak, this is T. J. Grier. Otherwise known as Trap Jeezus.
T. J. Grier: Not to be confused with Jesus Christ.
[ Laughing ] KK: And we make hip-hop music. We’ re from here. TG: If you want to say that.
FIVE: Are both of you from Pensacola? TG: I’ m originally from Atlanta. KK: And I’ m from New Orleans. TG: I moved here like eighth grade year.
FIVE: How’ d you guys end up here? TG: My parents moved here forever ago. My dad was actually from here so it was nothing new to him. My mom has military background, so they’ re used to Pensacola.
KK: My dad got a job offer here, and I guess they( his parents) enjoyed it because we’ re still here. Did we answer the question?
FIVE: Somewhat. [ All laughing ]
KK: We’ re both 19. I go to Florida State, he goes to UWF.
FIVE: What made you start producing music and rapping?
KK: I started making music when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Breast cancer. It was kind of my way of coping with it and then somebody actually encouraged me to release something. Then I linked up with T. J. and then we expanded and we are where we are now. We never intended for it to be like this. In any way.
TG: I don’ t think that anybody knows that both his mom and my mom are both breast cancer survivors. I always thought that was cool. A little note that nobody knows.
