Computer Clubhouse
Using the flagship Clubhouse of the Museum of Science( Boston) as a model, the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network supports more than 100 community-based Clubhouses around the world. The model is based on supporting learning through design experiences, helping youth build on their own interests, cultivating an emergent community and creating an environment of respect and trust. FLN is proud to be part of this dynamic program
Youth Participation
The participation and commitment made by youth in the community is fantastic. We have 12 members regularly attending the Youth Voices on Monday nights and between 15 – 30 members attending every afternoon, with an equal number of young male and female participants. Fitzroy offers a number of youth evening programs; however, the numbers attending the Clubhouse are still strong.
C2C( Careers to College)
Landers & Rogers law firm are accepting applications for interested Clubhouse members and the group work experience will begin next year. This year we explored the options for students who expressed interest in conducting their work experience at St Vincent’ s Hospital and Landers & Rogers in September and in Term 3 we arranged work place visits to the Intel head office, St Vincent’ s Hospital, Landers & Rogers and we will visit ZZZ Radio and North Yarra Community Health.
We ran an Adobe Premier Editing Workshop during the term for interested Clubhouse members with a focus on video and audio, import, edit and export using Adobe Premier software. A notable outcome of this was Ror’ s film clip for his song‘ Live your Life Right’ which won third prize at the Refugee Week Film Competition in June. We worked together to film, produce and edit the video clip using high end software while the members explored the best music editing techniques, which was an exciting and enjoyable process for the members involved.
Volunteers
There are currently 20 highly skilled volunteers in the Clubhouse, each of whom brings fantastic and individual energy. The Intel volunteers have come up with very positive project ideas which are in the planning stage.
Marco from Intel has generously donated eight brand new DELL computers to the Clubhouse. It was great to watch his team along with the young members assembling them and experimenting with the touch screens.
