The sixth generation began with the release of the Sega Dreamcast, which was very successful in its release year (November 27, 1998) but unfortunately for lack of a good game library was quickly set aside. It is the sixth generation that also has the best-selling console in history, the Sony PlayStation 2, with about 155 million sold worldwide. This is due to its game collection that is full of varieties and major releases.
Sixth Generation (1998 - 2015)
The main changes of the generation were the use of a storage device inside the console, the hard drive disk (HDD), which saves the game's progress on the machine, no longer in the game media, making it possible to play on two different disks of the same game and the progress is maintained, this technology came first on the Microsoft Xbox console, and the internet usage in the games, also brought by the Xbox which offered a local multiplayer but not necessarily in the “same location”, and also a service called Xbox Live that lets the player buy and download the game straight from the internet.
This generation became known as 128-bit era, but it began to stop using this nomenclature, because with this processor size hardly the same would choke on the size of a game, so to measure the performance of consoles went to use a variety of other factors such as clock speed and other computer terms.
