Anglers Return After Storms
COLFAX - “I missed fishing for a week
because of the cold wet weather, but I
was back out on the water yesterday,”
reported Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista.
“I hit Rollins from my kayak and did pretty
well.”
“I picked up 3 pan size rainbows and
a 14-inch brown while pulling an orange
Hum Dinger. I caught all the fish off the
peninsula that separates the Greenhorn
and Bear River arms. I got the brown right
on the surface. The rainbows came while
trolling about 15 feet deep with lead core,”
said Pleece.
“When the trout bite pinched out I
switched over to bass and picked up a
half dozen spotted bass to 13.5 inches
while tossing 4 inch whacky rigged
Senkos. All in all, Rollins is fishing well,”
Pleece concluded.
It’s been tough to get a report from
Scotts Flat Reservoir beyond that there
has been decent topwater and crankbait
action in the marina at first light. Anglers

“The shad fishing isn’t

anglers are still catching

As we continued down the bank Jarred
continued to get bit on his swimbait rigged

When the bite died down for a moment,
we decided to head back to the first spot of
the day.
As soon as I drop my Minn Kota 112
Fortrex, I began working an island break,
midway through my cast my rod got
thumped. I swung as hard as I could and
my rod immediately doubled over.
My drag started running and my heart
started pumping! Several minutes later I
landed a solid 10 to 12-pound class striper.
By this point we had figured the bite out
and we were getting hit every other cast.

EL SOBRANTE – Trout fishing has
improved greatly with two big trout plants
at San Pablo Reservoir.
“We planted 1,200 lbs. of Mt Lassen
Trout at the Marina on May 29 and the
Department of Fish and Wildlife planted
7502 lbs. of trout at the boat launch on
June 1,” reported Marcella Shoemaker of
the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
“Continue to cast out far and fish deep for
the trout.”
Sean McCann and 2 daughters from
Ireland caught 3 trout. Valtea Pettus of
Richmond bagged 4 trout weighing up to
2.5 lbs. while using PowerBait.
Paul Bisheri of San Francisco caught his
limit of rainbows, topped by a 3 pounder,
while soaking PowerBait. Olga and Dalia
of El Cerrito landed three trout while
fishing PowerBait at the tower.
Mika Valdovinos of San Francisco
caught his limit of rainbows weighing up
to 1.75 pounds while fishing chartreuse
PowerBait left of the pines.
Catfish are hitting chicken liver, large
nightcrawlers and Rat-L-Traps and
other lures in increasing numbers. Tsai
Industries planted 1,000 lbs. of catfish at
the boat launch on June 2, Shoemaker
noted.
If you want to hook crappie, target them
with Atomic Teasers and red worms.
The lake level is 309.4 feet in elevation
and the surface water temperature is 63.6
degrees.
