Meet tomorrow’s energy source: Methane Hydrate
(translation of Prof: P.K. Ravidran’s article)
Realization of the fact that increased carbon emission is the cause
for global warming, prompted the quest for more suitable fuel
sources. It was the same reason behind shift from coal to petroleum
and natural gases. The different forms of natural gases – liquefied
natural gases, compressed natural gases, are called pure gases. The
importance of natural gas as the primary source of energy is
increasing. It is estimated that by 2030, the share of natural gas
among primary energy sources will be around 25%. This is based
on the known reserves of natural gases now. More and more reserves
and forms of natural gas are being identified. This will boost the
importance of natural gas in the energy sector.
