Friends of Scientifica
where Watney, who returned to earth safely, explains to the young
astronauts how to regain the life.
Considering fully, the present day scientific knowledge, space travel
missions and various mars expeditions, the film is made based on a
realistic vision of possible future, without any exaggeration. Ridley Scott,
who made many films like ‘Alien’, ‘Gladiator’, ‘Robin Hood’, ‘Prometheus’ etc.
claims that he tried to maintain utmost justice to reality in the case of
‘The Martian’. He claims to be very careful in detailing about the
scientific ideas, equipment, knowledge about the land plains of mars, the
structure of space station and life, in his movie. He entered into an
agreement with NASA for this purpose. James L Green, the head of
planetary science, worked for this film as technical consultant.
The technical excellence and IMAX 3D image beauty gives an added
supremacy for the film.
Coming back to earth or home is the biggest wish for any lonely life. The
movie is surely about man, who in spite there is not much reason to wish,
still without losing hope, the ever striving wonderful creature. The
endless eagerness in conquering new worlds, to grasp new knowledge
makes us what we are. When the first potato sprout in Mars, Watney was
telling that “I started farming here”. It means that I conquered this
place. Conquering new worlds the journey of mankind will keep on
continuing.
India has contributed many great astronomers to the global science
arena.
Three of those masters are featured in this issue.
