Offense
Through 2020 and 2021, Millsap was the No. 1 offense in yardage across all of 3A Div. II, according to MaxPreps.
The goal is to return to form and execute an offense of 60 % run, 40 % pass. The percentage may change depending on the opponent, but it all starts up front.
“ We have a lot more experience and discipline. It’ s one of our strongest groups,” said Hunkapiller about the offensive line.” Our running game is going to be elite this year.”
Behind a unit of three returning starters, the Bulldog backfield is loaded with sophomore rushers. Adrien Porter, Braun Johnson and Cash Webb are only a few names of a deep RB depth chart.
A handful of those names will line up on the outside for Millsap as well, along with Gabriel Jones, for sophomore quarterback Madden Gilbert.
Gilbert’ s running ability adds to the emphasis on the ground game, as Jacob Johnson proclaimed him the fastest player in the program.
Defense
This season’ s defense will be on the gas pedal 24 / 7 under a 3-4 scheme. Along with being multifaceted, the goal for the Bulldog head coach is not to get beaten by linemen and make the play, regardless of getting the tackle.
Led by Isaac Gonzales and Jimmy Thomas on the D-line with plenty of linebacker help, an addition was made during the summer to strengthen the secondary.
Previously a defensive coordinator at Cisco College, Reagan Sullivan joins the staff as the defensive backs coach.
Playing more disciplined and communicating better is the focus in the defensive backfield.
Despite wanting a change in the wins, Camarillo made it clear that the program’ s culture needs no change. In nine years at Millsap, Jacob Johnson believes the team is on the verge of something special. The foundation of the brotherhood is based on the word of God. To achieve selflessness, Millsap’ s theme is“ Bring whatever gifts and talents God has given you, bring them every day and share them with everybody.”
It’ s not just about being an incredible athlete for Johnson; it’ s about acting like men.
“ We’ re going to act like men before the Lord and hopefully, we’ ll spread the gospel by how we play,” the head coach said.
