are running football plays that to me are basic tenets to what we do much more flawlessly this summer than they were last summer , since last summer was new .”
With the learning curve of Hobbs ’ first season behind them , the Rams now look to focus on the more complicated aspects and build on their potential for significant growth — and ideally , vault them into the playoffs .
Two years ago , the Rams ( 2-7 ) won their season finale to qualify for the postseason . The year after , in Hobbs ’ debut , Mineral Wells improved to a 4-0 start before experiencing injuries down the stretch . They qualified for playoffs again , but faced a tough competitor in the fourth slot .
“ This next year , if we can continue to vault off that success , then I think that we can be a playoff contender and a district contender in my opinion ,” Hobbs said . “ Our district will be tougher in some respects , because when you move up to Division I , the schools are bigger and so the ability to create more talent is there . For me to say that we are going to win outright and blow everyone out of the water , that might be a little bit of a stretch if we are being honest , but at the same time , that is our kids ’ expectations to win every game .”
Like his coaching colleagues , Hobbs said they have to treat everything one day at a time , living off his mantra of “ Win Today .”
“ The reason why ‘ win today ’ is my mantra is because I don ’ t need them focusing on are we going to win in Week 16 ,” he said . “ If we worry about winning
