Firefighter/Paramedics Brandon Miller, Brent Sargenti and Steven Lien teach a “Stop the Bleed” class recently in the city of Upland. 1 DIVISION news • On the same day as the barbecue competition, dinner with the crew at Station 71 was the most competitive bid of the night at the annual Fontana mayor’s gala, a fundraiser benefiting Boys and Girls Club of America. The winning bid fetched $1000. • On September 28 the Megan’s Wings 5K run was held in Upland. This was a Race for the Cure event which in part benefited MIkah Carney, son of Local 935 member Mike, in his fight with Leukemia. In fact, members of VP Marini’s family ran the race as well! • Marini, First Executive Vice President Jeff English, President Jim Grigoli and Division 2 Vice President Nathan Lopez attended a legal conference hosted buy our union law firm Mastagni & Holstedt. The gathering presented info on myriad issues, including pensions and workers’ comp. • The local is working with the department to improve the discipline and investigation progress. The idea is that employees will now be notified when a potentially disciplinary investigation is beginning. • Local 935 members from Fire Station 71 hosted the family of Ray Allard from Allard engineering, thanking him for his continued support of Local 935 members. Station 161 in Upland is professionally staffed with six personnel daily, including a captain, engineer and firefighter/paramedic each aboard an ALS-level engine and ALS ladder truck.
