• Word on the street is that some staffing changes
could come to Fontana soon: members may soon find
Station 77 turned into a truck and engine house, with
the (current) squad EMT position being redeployed
elsewhere in the County. Stay tuned here for details;
the Fontana city council votes on this issue in February.
• Union leadership joined Assistant Chief Jeff
Birchfield on tours of the division, covering topics
such as future funding, station additions in Fontana
and beginning implementation of Auto-Pulse devices
in both Upland and Fontana.
• Division 1 members were among the many who showed
up in force to represent labor’s interests at the crucial
San Bernardino County Board of Supervisor’s meeting
in September. As Division 1 Vice President John Marini
says, “Our members showed up when the president
asked. Showing numbers is important at times, and
this was one of them.”
• In August, the Fontana Boxing club hosted a
well-attended multi-fight card at Fontana’s Jesse
Hernandez center. Local 935 has been proud of its
ongoing support of this group, and this night was a
big step toward their continued success.
• Local 935 chefs claimed second prize in the chicken
category at the Fontana Grill & Chill barbecue
competition on September 14, taking on labor groups
from Fontana Police, San Bernardino County Sheriff,
Teamsters and steel workers.
