The 2008 has quite decent interior space, the rear seats have the advantage of folding flat to increase luggage capacity and it’ s gratifying to note that even 6 footers like myself can get comfortable in the rear of the vehicle even if you have a 6 foot person driving it, there was ample legroom. Boot space is okay, nothing to get too excited about but sufficient for the size of the vehicle.
The Peugeot 2008 is a well packaged vehicle certainly Peugeot have not cut back on safety features and all the models get Brake assist, Extra Stability control system and a plethora of air bags in case you have that unfortunate incident. This of course has helped the vehicle gain a 5 * EuroNCAP rating.
My particular test vehicle had the wonderful 3-cylinder petrol engine called Pure Tech this the name that has been given by Peugeot to a range of 3-cylinder naturally aspirated but turbocharged 1-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines. These engines have the power and torque of a 1.6-litre but from the smaller 1.2-litre capacity. An average fuel improvement of 18 % has been achieved by this new generation of engines. The 1.2-litre derivative in my test vehicle, was producing a healthy 130bhp at quite high 5,500 revs. Its maximum pulling power was achieved however marginally below 2,000, but this is an engine that thrives on revs and the exhaust note and engine note to me are the rewards of doing such a thing.
Peugeot suggests a 0-60 gallop in marginally over 9 seconds, a top speed for those interested is 124mph, suffice to say we will ignore the Peugeot quoted fuel figures and just inform readers that in my nearly 300 miles of much varied terrain I achieved 47 mpg, which again in this day and age I don’ t find to be too disappointing.
With good all round visibility, a pleasant gearbox, a control panel of instrumentation set up which was easy and quite clear to see, a satellite navigation that did not need a degree to be able to understand it, Blue Tooth hat connected quite admirably, the vehicle satisfied me on many scores.
The 2008 is available as a 4-model option however the entry level Access is a little short on equipment which you are probably used to, for example the entry level Access does not even qualify for alloy wheels, so you do need to move up the specification if you like your toys and equipment in a particular vehicle.
The retail price of my 1.2-litre Pure Tech GT-Line was £ 19,575 and with a CO figure as 110, it will be nil rated in the first year and a mere £ 20 on subsequent years.
Peugeot gives you 3-years peace of mind warranty, 2-years unlimited and a free optional 1-year at the end of this period provided by Peugeot.
