BWRT ®: A Unique New Approach to Therapy
BWRT ® is a dynamic new approach in psychotherapy that can help to dissolve problems almost instantaneously. Totally logical and based on the latest understandings of how our brains actually work, it can quickly lead to long-term self-improvement and change.
Therapy is all about change. There comes a time for most people where they will want to make some sort of change, whether that is seeking help for an issue such as anxiety, wanting to increase their confidence levels or maybe finding a new job. Change is all around us: sometimes we choose it, sometimes it is beyond our control. The trouble is, on many levels, we are not very good at dealing with it. When we have difficulty changing an aspect of ourselves, we will often seek some form of therapy to help with that process.
Some therapies will require a client to find the root cause of a problem, going back to where it all started. We sometimes call this the Initial Sensitising Event( ISE). Quite often, a client will need to be consciously aware of a problem, or what caused it, before they can start to resolve it. This is not always desirable or even possible. What if the initial event is too traumatic or upsetting to revisit? What if the client genuinely cannot remember?
How the mind works
We go through life constantly learning and exploring. Sometimes, when we choose to do something that we really want to do- such as learning a new language, riding a bike, driving a car- we engage with that process and are consciously aware that it is happening. There are many other things, though, that we are not aware of learning. These become those little habits, responses and anxieties that we might later want to change.
Recent understanding of how our brains actually work has shown us that this learning process creates neural pathways in the brain every single time we experience something. These pathways are reinforced through repetition, and if there is any negative emotion attached to a experience, we can learn it very quickly- sometimes, just a single bad experience is enough for that memory to stick in our minds. When we next encounter a similar situation, we compare all of the information against that‘ database’ of previous experiences and, if there is any form of negative response, our brains might try to get us to avoid that situation.
This is where anxiety can kick in- it is a natural way of getting us to avoid a situation that seems potentially harmful. It’ s a great way of helping us to survive, but not always desirable. Furthermore, research has shown that decisions are made and acted upon by our mental processes and we start responding to a situation before we are consciously aware we are doing so. Of course, not everybody will respond the same way to every situation. One person may have a terrible phobia of dogs, the next person won’ t. Let’ s face it- the situation is never the problem: it is always how we ourselves respond emotionally to a situation that causes us an issue.
This is where BWRT ® can really help, and where it differs from other therapies: by breaking the emotional connection we have with a situation, it leaves us free to experience the future without that negative reaction.
