South Line ( Continued from page 7 )

in 1996 , South Line has continued to grow and adapt to meet both the needs of the changing community and the emerging technology and techniques used to serve its residents . In 1974 , South Line was the first fire company in the town to introduce large diameter hose into firefighting operations . South Line also led the formation of the Town Safety Committee Accreditation Board with has instituted town-wide Standard Operating Procedures . The Boxwood substation underwent an addition in 2007 that increased South Line ’ s instruction and education capacity with the construction of the company ’ s own training facility , complete with tower and skill house . While in 2009 , a committee was formed to create and implement the South Line Memorial Brick Plaza outside the main hall , which now boasts numerous bricks that
are dedicated in memory of past South Line members and loved ones . In order to properly pay our final respects to our brother firefighters , the Memorial Committee and Honor Guard were formed in 2014 , receiving training from the National Fire Academy . Improvements and additions to the South Line fleet have continued during the past 15 years as well . In 2008 , Truck 6 , the popular aerial that was in service since the mid-1970s was replaced with a brandnew 100-ft rear-mount aerial from American LaFrance . Three new vehicles were introduced in 2014 : a new Heavy Rescue 7 from Spartan , and two new pickups , Fire Police 5 , and Utility 5-1 . In 2016 , the search and rescue operations grew with the addition of a Polaris Side-by-Side ATV and a drone with thermal imaging capabilities was purchased in 2017 . Most recently , Engine 1 and
Engine 2 were dedicated into service from Spartan in 2018 . With emergency medical service ( EMS ) calls , making up the vast majority of the responses in the district , South Line has always been at the forefront of providing the most advanced services available to their residents . As the only Advanced Life Support accredited fire company in town , South Line current rosters 42 Emergency Medical Technicians ( EMTs ), 7 Advanced EMTs , and 3 Paramedics to provide the highest level of prehospital care . Over the past 10 years , South Line has become a host to several community events for both children and adults alike . In 2013 , the ever-popular Summer Bash started and has grown into a multi-day event featuring a car show and chicken BBQ during the day and when the sun goes down , the tent hosts popular Western New York bands for
an evening of music and dancing . South Line also began hosting meat raffles in 2014 and just recently renovated the back park with a new driveway , fencing , and a landscaped garden . While 2020 was a challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic , South Line showed its true community spirit and support throughout the entire year . The company participated in over 350 Birthday Drivebys with fire apparatus , hosted a Graduation Day parade in June , held a Halloween Drive-By that saw over 450 bags of candy distributed and joined in the Truck & amp ; Treat event at Cheektowaga Town Park , taking Best in Show honors for their efforts . In 2021 , and with the COVID-19 crisis moving into the rear-view mirror , South Line looks forward to reinstating several of its most popular community events , including Fire Prevention birthday
parties , baby-sitting training courses , the Fire Prevention Open House , the Summer Bash , and the District-Wide Christmas Parade with Santa , After 75 years of service , the firefighters and officers of the Cheektowaga South Line Volunteer Fire Company are entrusted to protect over 7,000 households and businesses that are worth over a total of $ 1,062,303,000 . The value of the company itself has risen to $ 5,393,089 in buildings and equipment and $ 7,332,734 in fire and emergency apparatus .
