North Tonawanda FD mourns pastor ’ s death
REV . A . W . MOLDENHAUER
In addition to his duties for over 50 years as Pastor of St Matthew ’ s Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda , the late Rev . A . W . Moldenhauer took on Chaplain duties for the North Tonawanda Fire Department in 1973 . To get a better understanding for the job , Chaplain Moldenhauer took some Fire Service training and fully appreciated and supported our work as firefighters . When he preached on Sundays and would hear sirens , he would tell the congregation to “ take 5 ”, which meant he and the congregation would take 5 seconds to pray for the responders and those they were going to help . He instituted this practice in his personal life as well , always pausing a minute to pray when he heard sirens in his beloved NT Community . He was a compassionate , caring and giving individual . In the 1980 ’ s , he began the “ Christmas for Kids Giveaway ”, which provided coats , shoes , toys and food to the less fortunate in the City . Additionally , Rev . Moldenhauer hosted the kids Christmas party for the Local 1333 members , and no party was complete until the singing of Christmas carols and Silent Night was sung . He always had time for “ the guys ” and any Local 1333 member or their family that needed him , knew they could count on The Rev to be there . He offered prayers before our Union Meetings . He celebrated with us during promotions , retirements , weddings , births of children and all the major life events . He mourned with us and presided over funeral services for deceased members and had a listening ear after a tough call and during stress debriefing sessions . He was our friend and Brother . There will never be another “ Rev ”. “ Remember to LOVE each other while you HAVE each other ” - Rev . Moldenhauer He was predeceased by his wife Lois in 2013 .
