N. Horizontal Sliding Doors 1. Horizontal sliding doors shall meet the following criteria: a. The door is readily operable from either side without special knowledge or effort. b. The force that, when applied to the operating device in the direction of egress, is required to operate the door is not more than seven kilogram force (7 kg-f). c. The force required to operate the door in the direction of door travel is not more than fifteen kilogram force (15 kg-f) to set the door in motion and is not more than seven kilogram force (7 kg-f) to close the door or open it to the minimum required width. d. The door assembly complies with the fire protection rating and, where rated, is self-closing or automatic-closing by means of smoke detection in accordance with Section 10.2.5.3 para G of this IRR, and is installed in accordance with NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Fire Windows. SECTION 10.2.5.4 STAIRS A. General 1. Stairs used as a component in the means of egress shall conform to the general requirements of Section 10.2.5.2 of this IRR and to the special requirements of this Section. 2. All stairways designated as a means of egress shall be continuous from the uppermost floor level down to ground floor. B. Dimensional Criteria 1. Standard stairs shall meet the following criteria: a. New stairs shall be in accordance with Table 2 and 4. b. Existing stairs shall be permitted to remain in use, provided that they meet the requirements for existing stairs shown in Table 3. c. Approved existing stairs shall be permitted to be rebuilt in accordance with the following: i. Dimensional criteria of Table 3. ii. Other stair requirements of Section 10.2.5.4 of this IRR. 63
