consultancy for livestock farms.
6.2 Human capital issues and challenges within professional services
Despite positive growth experienced by Professional Services sector, there are human capital
issues and challenges that hinder its performance. The sector faces talent shortage as graduates
lack the required technical and soft skills and the ability to work across different cultures. The
shortage of specialised talent in niche industries such as oil and gas, aviation maintenance,
repair and overhaul (MRO) and construction is hampering the growth of the respective
industries 10 . Local professional services talent shortages could be attributed to brain drain as
highly talented and skilled professionals looking for more lucrative jobs in the region such as
China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Aside from attractive remuneration, Malaysian
professionals also work abroad for increased job scope and for regional opportunities.
