In terms of the gross output value, the sub-sectors generated a total of RM40.4billion in 2015
while the total value added (i.e. GDP) generated was RM24.3billion, which contributed to 2.3%
of the country GDP 3 . The sector has seen a positive growth in total value added, with CAGR
of 15.6% from 2010 to 2015. Based on the economic census of Professional Services sector
published by the Department of Statistics Malaysia in 2016, almost 76% of the value added
within the professional services sector originates from WP Kuala Lumpur (43%) & Selangor
(33%). Engineering professional services activity is the highest contributor for the sector in
terms of GDP, which accounts for 20% of the sector’s GDP contribution, followed by legal
(15%) & other professional services activities (15%).
Meanwhile, the total number of persons engaged in this sector was 314,292 persons with
salaries & wages paid amounting to RM10.1billion 4 .
