8.3.3 Recommendation 3 3 Improve skillsets of graduates by strengthening collaboration and better aligning curriculum with industry needs Recommended Actions Stakeholder E.O.I. IMPACT To expand work-based learning programme such as 2u2i (2 years university + 2 years industry) / 3u1i (3 years at university + 1 year in industry) which provide undergraduate students enhanced industry exposure during the course of their studies. Industry should be encouraged to replicate this model by setting up a branch firm or research centre in university to provide a platform for student to improve their skillsets and employability. Example Initiative Bachelor of Accounting programme in Universiti 3.1 Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has a Teaching Accounting Firm (TAF) which is a joint collaboration between Salihin Chartered Accountants and UMT. Selected students will be undertaking attachment at TAF as part of their studies and will be placed at TAF as early as their 2 nd year study. With the industrial attachment runs hand-in-hand with the formal learning in class, the course structure provides a unique and advanced learning and practical training platform for both accounting lecturers and students.
