National Employment Returns (NER) 2018 In terms of the analysis by sector as shown in Figure 4.6, Manufacturing sector had the largest number of vacancies that was close to one third of the total available job vacancies in the market at 29%. Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles & Motorcycles sector came as the second largest contributing sector in terms of job vacancies. This suggests a possibility to channel the retrenched workers from both sectors to fill up the job vacancies available in the sector. In terms of vacancy rate 3 , Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing, Accommodation & Food Service and Other Service sectors reported the highest vacancy rate of 7% each, respectively. Figure 4.6 Distribution of Vacancy & Vacancy Rate by MSIC Examining the distribution of vacancy by MSIC and Skills Level reveal that 70% of the vacancies available are for semi- and low-skilled job categories. Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector had more low-skilled job vacancies to fill, whilst Information & Communication sector had more high-skill job vacancies to fill, followed by Professional, Scientific & Technical and Financial & Insurance/takaful sectors. This comes no surprise as most of the employees from the aforementioned three sectors are high-skilled workers.
