National Employment Returns (NER) 2018
In terms of the analysis by sector as shown in Figure 4.6, Manufacturing sector had the largest number
of vacancies that was close to one third of the total available job vacancies in the market at 29%.

contributing sector in terms of job vacancies. This suggests a possibility to channel the retrenched
workers from both sectors to fill up the job vacancies available in the sector.
In terms of vacancy rate 3 , Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing, Accommodation & Food Service and Other
Service sectors reported the highest vacancy rate of 7% each, respectively.
Figure 4.6 Distribution of Vacancy & Vacancy Rate by MSIC
Examining the distribution of vacancy by MSIC and Skills Level reveal that 70% of the vacancies
available are for semi- and low-skilled job categories. Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector had more
low-skilled job vacancies to fill, whilst Information & Communication sector had more high-skill job
vacancies to fill, followed by Professional, Scientific & Technical and Financial & Insurance/takaful
sectors. This comes no surprise as most of the employees from the aforementioned three sectors are
high-skilled workers.

positions
