Figure 2.19 shows the monthly basic salary range (lowest to the highest) paid by the establishments to
different job categories. The monthly basic salary range can vary greatly by position. As a general rule
of thumb, the basic salary range tends to be higher with the increase of job complexities and job
responsibilities. For instances, the monthly basic salary range for both Managers and Professionals
categories were wider compared to the rest of the job categories.

Analysis by Skill Level
Figure 2.20 highlights the median monthly starting and maximum salaries of Malaysian employees
within the different skilled job categories across different sectors. The salary range for high-skill jobs
within the Financial & Insurance/Takaful sector was the widest. On the other side of the spectrum, the
typical salary range for low skill jobs was between RM1,000 and RM1,500 for most of the sectors.
