National Employment Returns (NER) 2018 Nationality Comparison Analysis by Geography Overall, employers paid its Malaysian employees 2.2 times more when compared to Foreign employees. Figure 2.11 explores the differences in basic pay between Malaysian and Foreign full-time employees from the two main regions in Malaysia. Employers from Peninsular Malaysia on average paid its Malaysian employees 2.1 times more than their Foreign employees. Similar result is seen for employers from East Malaysia who also paid their Malaysian employees 1.8 times higher than their Foreign employees. Figure 2.11 Median Monthly Basic Salary for Full-Time Employees by Nationality & Geography Analysis by Establishment Size Large establishments tend to pay higher monthly basic salary to Foreign employees compared to Small and Medium establishments. It is observed that the average monthly basic salary paid to Foreign employees from Small and Medium establishments was at similar rate. Foreign employees from Large establishments was paid a higher salary compared to their counterparts from the Small and Medium establishments.
