Employees Characteristics
This section describes the characteristics of the employees employed by the establishments. Some of
the key demographic characteristics such as gender, nationality and occupational category are discussed
in this section. Figure 1.14 provides a snapshot of the employee’s profile for NER 2018.

Overall Observations
Analysis by Geography & States
On the employment front, the total number of employees employed by the establishments was
9,365,872, of which majority of them (81%) were from Peninsular Malaysia, while East Malaysia
accounted for about 19% of the employees. Despite a higher establishment representation in East
Malaysia, the workforce representation was lesser.
