Analysis by Establishment Size
In terms of establishment size (refer to Figure 1.4), 88% of the establishments in NER 2018 were Small
establishments, while Medium and Large establishments accounted for 7.5% and 4.3% respectively.

Analysis by Sector
Figure 1.5 shows the distribution of establishments by main sectors in NER 2018. As illustrated in
Figure 1.5, 77% of the establishments were represented by Services sector, suggesting the sector is
playing a vital role in the economy. Meanwhile, about 20% of the establishments were represented by
both Manufacturing and Construction sectors, with equal representation of 10% establishments for each
sector. This is followed by 2.6% and 0.3% of the establishments which were represented by Agriculture
and Mining & Quarrying sector respectively.

The biggest of the Services sector in respect of the number of establishments was the Wholesale &
Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles & Motorcycles sector which accounted for 37% (refer to Figure
1.6). On the other end of the spectrum, Electricity, Gas, Stream & Air Conditioning Supply sector
accounted the least number of establishments at only 0.1%.
