3 . Detailed event analysis , can value add the identification of source and process .
Initial analysis , of the BBB region showed a dearth of soils data , particularly in the Little Bowen and Broken sub-catchments . Importantly soils data is a crucial component in understanding catchment process and accurate catchment modelling . With the aim of improving the soils dataset , new soil sampling was undertaken by the Department of Resources - land resources office . This work is reported fully in “ RP235 Queensland Reef Water Quality Program – Soil and land conservation technical support for priority hotspots in reef catchments ”. Table 11 and Figure 6 , show , the number of new soil sites added , and these are quite significant , for example the Broken River dataset originally only 2-3 sub soil phosphorus samples , with 16 new full profile sample sites . Likewise , the Little Bowen - this report has added to the lines of evidence identifying the “ Little Bowen ” as a substantial sediment source , it is recommended that further targeted work be undertaken .
