NEO-TRADITIONAL REVIVAL
This house type is based largely on the Post-Modernism style , which initially emerged in the 1950s and continues into the present . Post Modernism , as popularized by the architecture of Denise Scott-Brown , Robert Venturi , and Charles Moore , conceptualizes architecture as a means of expression and was a reaction to the earlier Modernist movement . Specifically , Post Modernism , in contrast to Modernism , references past styles in its free use of exterior decorative elements . Neo-Traditional Revival domestic architecture borrows from this Post Modernism ’ s esthetic . Rather than emphasizing or reflecting a single style , Neo-Traditional architecture is eclectic in nature and may display a mix of design elements that are taken from a number of different styles . Defining architectural features of this house type include :
• Minimal ornament including quoins , eave returns , columns , Palladian windows , etc .;
• Minimized entry porch ;
• One- or two-story heights ;
• Attached garage , garage dominant front facade on later examples ;
• Wood-frame construction ;
• Cross-hipped or cross-gabled complex rooflines ;
• Single-hung windows ; and
• Exterior walls typically clad with brick veneer .
This house , located in the Morgan subdivision is a two-story example of a Neo-Traditional house .
