50 / 50 spoke with Miss C Brown a well-known female DJ in Birmingham to get her thoughts.

Its Great to be a Woman! Women are capable of doing at least two different things to a passable standard at the same time.
Miss C Brown How did you start getting involved in DJ’ ing?
Well it was some years ago, I did a course at South Birmingham College, it was a Media and Radio course, it kind of just happened from there. I was really interested in music, I’ ve always been interested in music, and I’ ve always made my own tapes. I did a little bit of radio there and from there I was like yeah man I’ m gonna do this and that’ s how it kind of all started.
When you started the course at South Birmingham College, how many girls where on the course with you?
You know, to be fair there was quite a few of us, but they were more interested in the filming side of things, whereas I was more interested in the DJ’ ing and the Radio side of things.
When you finished the course what was your next goal?
I just wanted to do more work on Radio, I went to Uni, got myself on Pirate Radio, I knew the guy who owned the station so asked him to be on his station, he asked if I had any experience, at the time I didn’ t. He was cool with it, and was even cool with me being a female. That was it, that was the start, and I literally found my way around radio.
Wow, that’ s interesting that the guy who owned the station was cool with you being a female, as usually its hard for a female DJ to get regular club bookings, to get on radio, so in terms of after you got on radio, what difficulties did you face if any, and how did you overcome them? cont...
